Go green with new sustainable travel toolkit

27.07.2016 | category: General

Capability Brown sites are being encouraged to go green, with a new sustainable transport toolkit now available.

Mr Brown’s Green Directions has been produced by Transport Initiatives and Phil Jones Associates on behalf of the Capability Brown Festival 2016. It looks at how sites can encourage people to leave their cars at home, and use more environmentally-friendly modes of travel to make a visit.

It aims to address transport and access issues and provide common-sense cost effective or cost neutral suggestions for overcoming those barriers, taking into account that many Capability Brown sites are in areas often less well served by public transport. It is intended for use by sites of all scales with varying levels of experience opening to the public.

As well as practical hints and tips, the toolkit provides case studies from a number of Capability Brown sites of various sizes, including Scampston, Kirkharle and Burton Constable. It also contains a number of scoring matrices to help readers assess their own current position and identify areas for improvement.

The toolkit can be accessed on the Festival’s resources for sites page, which also includes our previously-published owners’ manual, education pack and five-minute film.
